Engagement rate is the #1 signal
A creator with 100K followers should get roughly 2,000-5,000 likes and 80-200 comments per post on Instagram. If engagement is below 0.5% or above 15%, something is likely wrong - either purchased followers diluting real engagement, or bot-inflated likes.
Like-to-comment ratio matters
Healthy accounts typically have 20-50 likes per comment. If a post has 5,000 likes but only 10 comments (500:1 ratio), those likes are almost certainly purchased. Real audiences leave comments, ask questions, and tag friends.
